Atlanta Science Festival Brings Science to Atlanta’s Backyard During Annual Exploration Expo

Tue, 03/08/2016 - 2:33pm -- david.terraso
The Atlanta Science Festival wants you to bring the whole family out for the 2016 Exploration Expo, the metro area’s largest free interactive science event. Held Saturday, March 26, from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. at Centennial Olympic Park, the event concludes a weeklong celebration of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

The Expo will promote science exploration, discovery and innovation with more than 100 interactive exhibits, hands-on experiments, mind-blowing demos, and science-themed performances. Adults, children and families are encouraged to attend this free celebration of science.

“Building off the tremendous success of last year, we’ve added an extra hour to the Expo to give attendees the opportunity to hit all of the must-see, must-do activities,” said Melody Richardson, chairman of the Exploration Expo. “We look forward to seeing our great city pack the park and engage in hands-on science fun on March 26.”

Those planning to attend are advised to map out their day in order to take advantage of the entire experience. Activities will be spread between the following STEM zones: Discover (sponsored by Mercer University), Encounter (sponsored by Emory University), Invent (sponsored by Georgia Tech), Thrive (sponsored by Cancer Treatment Centers of America), and the Innovator’s Playground (sponsored by The Children’s School).

Attendees will have the chance to fly a drone, touch a brain, stay afloat in a non-Newtonian fluid dance pit, participate in a 40-foot LEGO build of the city of Atlanta, express themselves through science haikus, and discover the science inside an Oreo, to name just a few of the 100 activities.

Join Us for Our First-Ever Science Parade!
A Science Parade into the Park will kick-off this year’s Exploration Expo. Participants are invited to dress up as their favorite element or scientist—Einstein, Curie, Carver, Euclid, Nye or deGrasse Tyson—we can’t wait to see your creativity! To take part in the parade, be sure to sign up here and meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of Centennial Academy at 531 Luckie Street NW.
